Summary: Image: 1/6 plate; Half portrait of a woman seated in a posing chair, wearing a dress with made of striped fabric with dropped shoulders trimmed down the outside edge of the sleeves with wide, black ribbon ruching, buttoned at the front, with a simple white band collar and white neck tie, with her hair parted in the center, fastened back from the face and arranged in crimped waves, with color applied to her cheeks, and gold applied to brooch at throat. Preserver: Fancier with inward points at the corners (after 1858). Mat: Oval with matte finish and ornate (late 1850s). Case: Paper-covered wood-frame with a geometric design with lyres in each of the four corners embossed on both the front and back, with a gilded pattern on both the exterior and interior edges, with a red velvet pinchpad, and a red velvet cushion embossed with a geometric design (1850-1860s).
