description This folder contains former volume 1, pages 137 to 144 of the extra illustrated version of John Galt&#39;s&nbsp;<em>The Life, Studies and Works of Benjamin West</em>. It includes letters to and from West, some personal and some relating to the Royal Academy of Arts, and an inventory of West&#39;s art. Most documents are dated to the 1810s.<br /> <br /> John Galt wrote two volumes covering the life of Benjamin West. The first was published in 1816 and contains biographical information from West&rsquo;s birth to his travels in Italy in the 1760s. The second volume contains West&rsquo;s move to London and his subsequent career as historical painter to King George III, and ends with West&rsquo;s death in 1820.&nbsp
