Summary: This folder contains former volume 3, pages 1 to 75 of the extra illustrated version of John Galt's The Life, Studies and Works of Benjamin West. It contains official documents and letters that Galt used as primary source material from the 1750s to 1790s, including personal correspondences, documents dealing with the Royal Academy of Arts, and prints of notable contemporaries. Oversize pages are in box 3, folder 4.

John Galt wrote two volumes covering the life of Benjamin West. The first was published in 1816 and contains biographical information from West’s birth to his travels in Italy in the 1760s. The second volume contains West’s move to London and his subsequent career as historical painter to King George III, and ends with West’s death in 1820.
