Summary: "In western Friuli and in Friuli Region in general, the events of the recent past are closely linked to emigration, an experience which has involved almost every Friulian family. The "Work and Emigration" Section of the "Diogene Penzi" Museum of rural life, in Cavasso Nuovo - a small village in the Pordenone foothills - bears witness to this impressive phenomenon. Opened on 16 September, 2000 at Polcenigo-Fanna Palace (also known as Palazat), the museum structure, one of the first in Italy dedicated to emigration, describes the many aspects of going around the world and presents a complete framework of the migratory flows and destinations of workers from western Friuli. Indeed, the provincial dimension of the Museum Section follows a very precise logic: understanding the characteristics of Friulian emigration as a whole presupposes the study of the different territorial specificities, even at a village level, but in a complex dimension. The aim of this volume is to guide the visitor through the museum rooms, but also to accompany the reader along the trajectories - exciting but not without dangers - of the emigrants from western Friuli." - abstract
