Summary: Primarily a catalog to the microfilmed part of the archives of the Pennsylvania Hospital (Philadelphia, Pa.) for 1850-1929, with brief listings of some unmicrofilmed collections.
"The administrative records, 1850-1929, of the Pennsylvania Hospital, at Eighth Street and affiliated small hospitals - Philadelphia Lying-In Hospital, Philadelphia Dispensary, Southern Dispensary, Preston Retreat, Maternity Hospital - were filmed under a grant from the National Library of Medicine. The hospital archives for the years 1750 to 1850 were filmed in 1963 with funding from the American Philosophical Society. The 1976 NLM project has continued the filming of the major series of administrative records where the 1963 APS project left off. This table of contents is in part a continuation of the table of contents prepared in 1963; it is best used in conjunction with that earlier index. The 1976 NLM project filmed only the admnistrative records of the Pennsylvania Hospital at Eighth Street and the small hospitals. This is just a small portion of the archival materials available for the post-1850 period."
