Item Description: Authorship of English original attributed to John Shebbeare.
Translation, by Edme Jacques Genet, of the ironical defence of the Duke of Cumberland published in London in 1756 under the title: Reasons humbly offered, to prove, that the letter printed at the end of the French memorial of justification, is a French forgery and falsly [sic?] ascribed to His R--l H--s. The letter referred to is alleged to contain the Duke of Cumberland's orders to General Braddock, and is included in a collection of documents (compiled by Jacob Nicolas Moreau and published by order of the French government in 1756) entitled: Mémoire contenant le précis des faits, avec leurs pièces justificatives pour servir de réponse aux Observations envoyées par les ministers d'Angleterre, dans les cours de l'Europe.
According to Sabin, issued together with: Le peuple instruit; ou Les alliances dans lesquelles les ministres de la Greande-Bretagne ont engagé la nation / John Shebbeare. Paris?, 1756.
