The spurious letters occupy pages 4-66 of the present edition, the remainder of the volume being an appendix of letters and other documents, apparently authentic.
The authorship of the spurious letters has been attributed to John Vardill and John Randolph.
Inserted between page ii and page iii is a sheet containing a letter from Washington (dated March 3, 1797) denying the authenticity of the seven letters above mentioned.
