The couple settled in Philadelphia, where James was born in 1930 and Edmund in 1931. In 1958 the family opened the Middle East Restaurant, which is still operated by Edmund and James. It serves as the headquarters of the Lebanese American Cultural Society and the focus for many Arab activities. The collection primarily documents the operation of the restaurant and activities taking place there, and includes correspondence, miscellaneous printed materials, drawings, permits, posters, and uncataloged photographs.
