Summary: The collection includes two volumes belonging to Jacob E. Parke of Downington, Pa. The first volume contains ledger information with an index (1842-1844), and a diary (1880-1887) kept by Parke. The diary entries include discussions of weather, business matters, and other financial notes. In addition, Parke occasionally mentions crops planted and other farm-related matters. The other volume is a daybook, 1833-1863, including entries for wages paid, fees for renting pasture for livestock to graze in, and the sale of groceries, dry goods, and other items. The entries concerning money paid out for wages often detail the type of work done, including hauling boards and corn, keeping horses, and repairing shoes. There is also a 10-page account for the "Esther Evans Sale, Aug. 27th 1863." These entries include what appear to be names of purchaser, items purchased, and price paid.
