He married Elizabeth Hugg, and the couple had one son, John Hugg Clunn, born in Lambertville, New Jersey (1770-1798). Manuscript journal, 30 September-20 December 1794, kept during his three months service describing the march from Trenton to Pittsburgh and back to quell the Whiskey Rebellion. The reverse of volume contains various anonymous cooking recipes, a "cure for dropsey," prose, and poetry.
