Summary: These photographs, given by Graham Roberts, document two residences of the Roberts family. Located outside the city of Philadelphia, Windermere was built by George Washington Roberts in 1828 and later purchased in 1840 by his brother Algernon. The 13 photographs of the estate include exterior views of the front and rear facades as well as one of the stables. In another photograph a stately gentleman standing near a horse and carriage with driver is identified as Algernon Sydney Robert. Another photograph shows an African American ironing outdoors. There are also a few snapshots showing interior views of the residence as well as a copper plate of the front exterior. The other Roberts residence was located in center city Philadelphia, at 1901 Walnut Street, and represented in 10 photographs, including exterior and interior views. One photograph reveals the proximity of Roberts' Italianate-style townhouse to Rittenhouse Square. In an interior view photograph, Elizabeth Cuthbert Roberts is identified as the female seated in the second floor bedroom.
