Summary: This collection was compiled by the donor, Dr. Jack C. Vaughn, who was voted as the archivist of the De Wees/Deweese Family Association in 1980. The records trace various family lines that originated from the 16th century de Wees family of Holland, particularly Jan Cornelis De Wees (born circa 1535), Abraham Jans de Wees (1597-circa 1650), Adriaen Hendricks de Wees (1595-1674), and 1662 New Amsterdam immigrant Gerrit Hendricks de Wees (1640-1700). De Wees/Deweese families settled and proliferated in various Pennsylvania counties, including Philadelphia, Montgomery, Chester, and Berks. The records are organized by line and contain copies of census data; will and other probate records; Bible records and family correspondence; birth, death, marriage, and military records; tax and other legal records; and some photographs. There are also books on the family, a volume on the Holland ancestors of the De Wees family, and an eight-volume compilation of family group sheets, all authored by Dr. Vaughn.
