Summary: Engraved on the back of the pin in this donation is the name Marjorie Harris, who was a 1942 graduate of the Mount Sinai Hospital School of Nursing, Philadelphia. Mount Sinai Hospital was once located at South 5th and Reed Streets in South Philadelphia. It opened the public in 1905, five years after the merger of the Franklin Free Dispensary and the Mount Sinai Hospital Association, two local organizations that sought to provide medical services to the city's immigrant, particularly Jewish, population. Mount Sinai's School of Nursing saw students come from across the nation, though many were from Philadelphia and Southern New Jersey. Along with Harris's nursing pin, this donation is comprised of nine commencement programs, 1939-1946, in which are printed graduates' names and their hometowns (Marjorie Harris was from Brigantine, New Jersey), along with the each commencement's activities and an oath called "The Nightingale Pledge." There are two programs for the year 1942. The pin contains the hospital's symbol and "Mount Sinai Hospital Training School" encircled by a wreath of leaves.
