| 520 | |a In 1682, John Brock (1657-1704) of Cheshire, England, immigrated to America and settled in Bucks County, Pennsylvania. He was named a high sheriff in that county in 1683 and married Elizabeth Rawdon in 1684. The couple went on to have several children, thus rooting the Brock family name in the region. The family eventually expanded into Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, New York, and New Jersey, among other states. The items in this donation were collected mostly by John William Brock Jr. (1883-1959) of Philadelphia, who served in World War I and worked for various regional railroad and mining companies. Brock married Mildred Aurelia Mitchell (1897-1992) of New York City in 1923. This collection is comprised of a variety of material on the Brock and related families. Highlights include two very detailed genealogical volumes containing a wealth of family history information on and images of the Brock and Mitchell families - one volume focuses on the Brock family, while the other is about the Mitchells. There are also assorted newspaper clippings about and publications written by members of the Brock family, a few letters, facsimiles of maps of Philadelphia and Bucks County, blueprints, and other miscellaneous items. | ||
