520 | |a This collection documenting the life, family, and work of Pennsylvania coal miner and United Mine Workers (UMW) organizer Clarence Donaldson (1888-1973) was put together by the donor. Material related to the family includes: one binder of family papers that contains photographs (originals and copies), vital records, correspondence, genealogical notes and family trees, and clippings and other printed matter, much of which focuses on Donaldson's UMW work and the organization's president, John L. Lewis; a copy of the donor's self-published work on the Donaldson family titled "Legacy--Volume 1" (2020); and a copy of "Bucks County Senior Living" (Spring 2021), which includes an article on the donor's work to preserve her family's legacy. There are also a few oversized family photographs, and a group of laminated newspaper articles on Clarence Donaldson, along with one framed original article. The collection also focuses on coal mining in Pennsylvania's Broad Top region in the south-central part of the state, which is where Donaldson helped organize UMW. There is some information on this among the material in the family history binder, but there are also three publications related to it: "From Coal to Glory: The History of the Huntingdon and Broad Top Mountain Railroad and Coal Company, Volume 2" (1992); "Tales of the Broad Top, Volume 2" (1979) and "Tales of the Broad Top, Volume 3" (1986). Recently added to the collection is the donor's self-published work on her paternal grandparents' family line titled "Legacy--Volume II, The Steinkirchners," along with two volumes of genealogical research material that were used to put together this book. Among the papers are original photographs and copies, web print-outs, family trees and genealogical reports, and copies of vital records and correspondence. The Steinkirchners of Pennsylvania descended from Johann Adam Steinkirchner (abt. 1735-aft. 1794) and Anna Maria Lausser (abt. 1740-aft. 1794) of Stadl, Germany. Some later members of the family immigrated to the United States, settling in Centre, Cleafield, and Allegheny counties. | ||
