Summary: In this donation are two ledgers that were kept by an unidentified Philadelphia funeral home that primarily served residents of the south, west, and central parts of the city. The volumes, indicated as "2" and "4," date from 1897-1901 and 1906-1908, respectively. Some of the entries in them include very detailed accounts funeral expenses and arrangements, such as the type and cost of casket, type of transportation, additional items of clothing or casket needs, and sometimes, the opening of a grave. Nearly all the entries also contain deceased individual's names, street addresses, names of family members attending to them, and cause of death.
