Summary: In the late 1600s, members of the Leinbach family from Germany settled in Oley Township, Berks County, Pennsylvania. The family boasted a number of pastors or members who were otherwise involved with churches in and around Berks County. Among them was Samuel A. Leinbach (born 1844), who graduated from Franklin and Marshall College in 1864, and from the Theological Seminary at Mercersburg in 1867. He married first Margaret Everhart, and the couple had one daughter, Margaret Grace. Leinbach married for a second time and had another son. This photograph album contains 34 images (cabinet cards, carte de visites, tintypes) of Leinbach family members, including Samuel A. and Margaret Leinbach, as well as other acquaintances. It is likely attributed to Margaret Grace Leinbach, who went on to marry newspaper editor E. E. Althouse, as she identified her own baby pictures in the album and occasionally left the initials "M. L. A." All of the images are identified by name and many by relation.
