Summary: Volume 1 a scrapbook of B. F. Duane, an entertainer, includes four photos of him in various roles and newspaper clippings relating to general news, as well as notices of his entertainments (circa 1868-1891). Volume 2 consists of various clippings and memorabilia pertaining to the Civil War. It apparently belonged to Albert D. Bache of Philadelphia. Volumes 3 and 4 consist of newspaper clippings from the Philadelphia Public Ledger collected by J. G. Rosengarten, an employee of the paper. Rosengarten dealt with the section of the paper that reviewed periodicals and legal reviews. Volume 3 spans roughly 1873-1877 and Volume 4 spans 1878-1883. Volume 5 consists entirely of clippings pertaining to the Battle of Gettysburg written in the late 1880s. Volume 6 is a book of colorful stickers given to Mary K. Dey of Princeton, NJ on August 6th, 1877 from her "Auntie Poll." A marker inside the book indicates that many of the stickers were "probably produced to be used on confections," as discussed in William Woys Weaver's book, "The Christmas Cook," ostensibly published in the fall of 1990. The book was donated by the Princeton University Library on September 25, 1941. Volume 7 is a fabric sample book of A. and S. Henry and Co., Manchester (possibly 1851). The book contains over 4000 fabric samples, mostly white. Volume 8 is a scrapbook of portraits of famous people pasted over the published "Yearbook of the Twenty-first Annual Architectural Exhibition, Philadelphia 1915." The book was donated by Mrs. Martha S. Bozorth in April 27, 1964. Volume 9 is William Stuart's scrapbook, dated March 1860, including newspaper clippings relating to the Civil War, coin sales, and verse. It also includes a pass issued by the Army of the Potomac and an invitation to presentation of regimental colors to the 23rd Regiment, PA Volunteers. The scrapbook is on multi-colored paper. Volume 10 is a scrapbook of newspaper clippings on various topics including Newport, RI, Massachusetts regimental history, bible lessons, etc. Volumes 11 and 12 are also part of the series including Volumes 3 and 4. They consist of clippings from the Philadelphia Public Ledger collected by an employee of that paper, J. G. Rosengarten. Volume 11 spans from 1884 to 1893, and Volume 12 spans from 1893 to 1899. Volume 13 is a large scrapbook bursting with images and snippets of text. Highlights include silhouettes with Peale's Museum embossed on them, and some original artwork by T. M. H. The book is a gift of Albert Nalle on March 5, 1959. Volume 14 is a scrapbook from 1877-1882 given by Dolly Gilpin to Fred Gilpin. It appears that Dolly assembled the first third of the book, and the rest was put together by Fred. The book includes poetry (both published and original), cartoons, invitations, notes, and Civil War clippings. The book is a gift of Mrs. James M. Castle on March 24, 1952. Volume 15 is a large scrapbook of French fashion plates from the late 19th to the early 20th centuries. The plates are hand-colored, and some appear to be theatrical costumes. Some are designed by the Imprimerie Douday Fils. Volume 16 is a scrapbook titled "New England Views" featuring labeled prints depicting, in addition to Henry Longfellow’s home, the coast and coastal islands of Portland, Maine.
