Summary: Image: 1/6 plate; Head and shoulders of a woman with hair parted in the center, in loose waves around her face, wearing a dark dress with a wide whitework collar that does not meet at the front, with a brooch clasped at her throat. Preserver: Straight but more ornate (1850s). Mat: Oval with matte finish and ornate (late 1850s). Case: Leather covered wood frame embossed with a common Thistle Motif [Plate 119 on page 115 of "American Miniature Case Art" by Floyd and Marion Rinhart (Cranbury, New Jersey: A. S. Barnes and Co., Inc., 1969)] on the back, with gilded interior edge trim, and a red velvet pinchpad (ca. 1858).
