description Image: 1/6 plate; Seated woman, hair parted in the center and covered with a sheer white daycap set far back on the crown, wearing a spotted dress with long sleeves cuffed at the wrists, with a frilled white collar clasped at the throat with a brooch, shoulders and arms wrapped in a striped shawl, earrings in her ears and two rings on her fingers, color applied to her cheeks. Preserver: Straight, narrow, embossed with simple pattern (after 1850). Mat: Elliptical with sandy finish (late 1840s). Case: Leather-covered wood frame embossed with a Lily and Rose design [Plate 114 on page 113 of "American Miniature Case Art" by Floyd and Marion Rinhart (Cranbury, New Jersey: A. S. Barnes and Co., Inc., 1969)] both front and back, with a red velvet pinchpad and a red velvet cushion embossed with a pastoral design (ca. 1850).
