Summary: Image: 1/6 plate; Seated man with hair parted on one side and a short fringe of beard running from the sideburns down under the jawline, with arm resting on cloth-covered posing table, studio fabric draped on one side, wearing a dark jacket with a patterned vest, a white shirt, with a white bow tie, color applied to his cheeks and mouth. Preserver: Straight, narrow, embossed with simple pattern (after 1850). Mat: Nonpariel with matte finish (mid 1840s to mid 1850s). Case: Two unmatched case halves; Front is leather-covered wood-frame embossed with a floral design, with a red velvet cushion embossed with a floral design; Back is leather-covered wood-frame embossed with a bird and grapes design, with gilded edge trim on both the exterior and interior, with a red velvet pinchpad (1850s).
