Right image: 1/6 plate; Boy standing beside an elaborate studio chair with his hand grasping a spindle on the back of the chair, a painted backdrop behind, wearing dark long trousers and a patterned long sleeved tunic with a white collar, white undersleeves, a bow tie and a belt with a large buckle, and gaiters, which fasten with buttons at the outside. Preservers: Straight and embossed with simple pattern (after 1850). Mats: Double elliptical, more ornate (1850s onwards). Case: Leather covered wood-frame embossed with a floral design on the front and a geometric design on the back, with eggplant purple pinchpads (1850s). |
