description Jeremiah Royer enlisted in the army in August 1862, at Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. He was made a private Company L, 162nd Regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteers (also known as 17th Cavalry), and he was eventually assigned to 2nd Brigade, 1st Division, Cavalry Corps, Army of the Potomac. This memorial certificate, complete with several military-related vignettes on an easel form, describes Royer&#39;s service record and notes that he was honorably discharged at Clouds&#39; Mill on June 16, 1865. The certificate was presented to his son, William F. Royer, on May 15, 1894.<br /> <br /> Included with the certificate are documents and photos which are not owned by the Histroical Society of Pennsylvania. These materials were provided by the donor of the certificate as an aid to researchers. High-resolution copies of the photograph of Jeremiah Royer in military uniform can be obtained from the United States Army Heritage and Education Center.
