Summary: This digital record contains two letters attached to the same page. Both letters are dated August 29, 1794. The first letter was written by "Mad" Anthony Wayne, a General of the Revolutionary War, to Zebulon Pike [not to be confused with his son Zebulon M. Pike]. It concerns Zebulon's responsibilities at "Camp Deposit." The second letter was written by Wayne to Captain John Peirce concerning the reassignment of one of his detachments to Captain Ingersoll.

These letters were written during Wayne's post-Revolutionary career. In 1792, George Washington asked Wayne to command an extension of the army, the Legion of the United States, in the Northwest Territory, where Native American tribes were battling settlers. After Wayne commanded a decisive victory at the Battle of Fallen Timbers in August 1794, he negotiated the Treaty of Greenville, ending the war the following year. He died soon after.
