This black & white photograph depicts an 1837 watercolor painting by W.L. Breton titled Launching of Old Pennsylvania. The Old Pennsylvania battleship was launched July 18th 1837 in the U.S. navy yard in Philadelphia. The painting was donated to the H.S.P. in 1958 and was relinquished back to the donors in 1967, when this photograph was taken. In 1993, the original painting sold at Sotheby's to a private collector for an undisclosed amount. source This online record contains two images of one item from folder 1. |
