Summary: Image: 1/6 plate Cuttings ambrotype; Head and shoulders of a man, hair parted on one side and puffed at the forehead, wearing a dark jacket with a high rise in the collar at the back of the neck, a mid-toned vest, and a white shirt buttoned at the front, with an upturned collar, and a dark bow tie, color applied to his cheeks. Preserver: Straight, narrow, embossed with simple pattern (after 1850). Mat: Oval with matte finish and simple embossed design (ca.1854). Case: Leather-covered wood frame half case embossed with a common Thistle Motif design [Plate 119 on page 115 of "American Miniature Case Art" by Floyd and Marion Rinhart (Cranbury, New Jersey: A. S. Barnes and Co., Inc., 1969)] on the back, with exterior and interior gilded edge trim, and a red velvet pinchpad (ca. 1858).
