Summary: Commonplace book of John Laurens includes his observations on military activities in the American Revolution and on the importance of defending the Carolinas from the British. Also included is his account of the aid rendered by the French fleet in the Chesapeake and Delaware bays, under command of Comte de Grasse and Comte d'Estaing, preventing the arrival of British reinforcements and retarding British operations.
