Summary: |
Charles Laughlin Gemmill was born in Cresson, Cambria County, Pennsylvania, but was living in Ivyland, Bucks County, by the time he was a teenager. Gemmill graduated from Lafayette College with a degree in chemistry, and he eventually had a successful career as a professor in the Department of Pharmacology of the University of Virginia Medical School.
Gemmill obtained this Wanamaker diary when he was thirteen years old, and he used it to record the events of his life, such as going to school and church, in Bucks County and Philadelphia during 1915. The book is filled with daily entries as well as numerous small drawings by Gemmill in the margins that illustrate some of the entries.
