The first 15 portfolios deal with American history and social development in chronological order; the last 5 develop themes that cover the American scene from early times to modern days. The titles are: "Indians: The First Americans," "Colonial Years," "1776, The Revolution," "The New Nation," "Americans Move West," "Slavery," "Civil War," "Industrialization," "1876: Centennial," "The New Immigration," "Rural America," "A Nation of Cities," "America Builds," "A New World Power," "1976: Bicentennial," "Americans at Home," "Americans at Play," "Transportation," "Politics American Style," and "Communications." This series is suitable for use with hearing impaired students in junior and senior high social studies classes.
A user's guide suggests a variety of ways in which this material could be used. It contains a program index which cross-references all the prints to major and minor themes throughout 200 years of American history. Teaching guides and pamphlets, which are background texts prepared by the Smithsonian Institute, accompany each set.
