Summary: Baxter published the Panoramic Business Directory on his own and under the name of Baxter & Neff. In 1857 the directory was copyrighted by Baxter & Neff. Between 1859 and 1861 the images were printed by King & Baird and tinted in colors. In 1879 and 1880 most images were produced with A. C. Weaver & Co. (a publishing firm operating from the same office as Baxter). Most of the 1879 and 1880 directory was printed in editions of 1,000. This collection contains panoramic views of Philadelphia streets. Market and Chestnut streets are highlighted but Arch, Walnut, 2nd, 3rd, 4th streets are also included. Images depict buildings on each block as well as advertisements for merchants.
