His father, Alexander "Beby" Rubin, attended Thomas Jr. High School and participated in the recreation center at 4th and Shunk Streets, including the Beaumont Club (a social club) based there. Fred Rubin's uncle, Herman "Sparky" Sorin played basketball for South Philadephia High School for Boys and for St. Joseph's College. The collection includes a photograph of the Thomas Jr. High School graduating Class of 1929, a program from a 1933 "May Hop" sponsored by the Beaumont Club (featuring many ads for local businesses), a 1937-38 championship patch from the South Philadelphia High basketball team, and two programs featuring St. Joseph's basketball games, one at Philadelphia Convention Hall (n.d.) and one at Madison Square Garden (1940).
