"Picturesque Views of American Scenery. Engraved by John Hill from drawings by Joshua Shaw, Landscape Painter. 3 volumes rebound into one. Brilliant impressions of the 20 aquatint views by J. Hill in full color. This series, by the engrave of the "Hudson River Port-Folio" is considered by Stauffer to be the best example of Hill's work. It is also the rarest. The Union Catalogue in the Library of Congress lists only three sets in the libraries throughout the United States. Only four sets have turned up at auction since 1916, and none of these was in fine condition. Of the separate prints, only one has been reported as turning up at auction since 1918, although many other Hill prints have been sold during that period." |
