He deserted the British Army in June, 1778, and subsequently became the steward of General Nathanael Greene. This collection is a typescript of Sullivan's journal, 1775-1778. The original is at the American Philosophical Society (Philadelphia, PA), and the journal was published in 1997 as "From Redcoat to Rebel: The Thomas Sullivan Journal," by Joseph Boyle.
