These volumes include statements and a register, 1835-1844, of vessels and cargoes at Philadelphia, departing from or bound for various Portuguese ports. John Vaughan and Daniel J. Desmond were the Vice Consuls, the latter also serving as Consul General for Rome. The volumes also contain additional miscellanea of Vaughan as Brazilian Vice Consul, 1830-1836, as well as one page of entries relating to the Brazilian Consulate and a letter from the New York Brazilian legation to Edward S. Sayres, Brazilian Vice Consul at Philadelphia, dated August 13, 1866. The contents of the letter describe immigration instructions. |
