William West Conrad, born in Norristown, Pennsylvania in 1905, was a member of the Union League for much of his life. He was living at the club when he died in 1981. Conrad attended Penn Charter school, Swarthmore College, Princeton University, and Christ’s College. He worked for several years for the Girard Trust Company. In 1942, he entered into the military. After retiring from the service in the late 1940s, he worked for the Veterans Administration. He lived in his family home in Devon, PA (“Elmcroft”) until about the mid 1960s when he moved to the Union League.
This extensive collection of Conrad's papers and other items was collected at the Union League when he died. It consists of some family history papers along with correspondence, clippings,travel ephemera, postcards, programs, appointment books, certificates and diplomas, and photographs, much of which relates to Conrad’s lifelong interests in music and travel/exploration. |
