Summary: The Ancient Order of Hibernians is an Irish Catholic fraternal organization founded in New York in 1836. The organization offers aid to Irish newly arrived to United States. The first part of this collection dates from 1878 to 2007 and consists of five CDs which contain digitized records of the organization. Many of the records are pdf-format scans of original documents, pamphlets, newletters,and booklets. One disc of documents contains eleven files, including reproductions of press clippings from AOH National Conventions of 1878, 1880, 1888, and 1898, as well as scans of a written work on the history of AOH, The Irish in the American Revolution by M. H. Glynn, and two memberhsip lists. A second disc of documents contains fourteen files, among them, scans of the AOH constitution and revisions, 1960-1971; general manuals and ritual pamphlets from the 1930s; and a scan of Grosse Isle, 1847-1997. Additionally, there is a disc of scans of AOH's newsletter, "The Hibernian Digest," from 2004-2007. There is also a disc of photographs and images of AOH artifacts such as pins and religious statues. The final disc, entitled "Legacy Through Stained Glass, The Hibernian Windows" Vol. III, contain a slideshow of images of stained glass windows. The second part of the collection is unprocessed additions to the Ancient Order of Hibernians. The records date from 1930 to 2001 and consist: 2001-026 includes a 1931 letter by Eamon de Valera; invitation; sashes; and minutes, by-laws, charters, mermber rolls, and correspondence of the Irish Press Corporation; as well as a large group photoportrait captioned "A.O.H., March 17, 1907." 2001-047 contains by-laws from Division 99 (Philadelphia) and by-laws and a calendar from the Pennsylvania State Board.
