Summary: Photograph of political cartoonist, author and illustrator Walter H. McDougal (1858-1938). McDougal drew cartoons for the World and published his own illustrated books. His first completed work was The Unauthorized History of Columbus: Composed in Good Faith by Walt. McDougall (1890), followed by The Hidden City; Or, the Strange Adventure of Eric Gilbert (1891). In collaboration with Mark Fenderson, McDougal produced the first color comic strip in America titled, "The Unfortunate Fate of a Well-Intended Dog," and he worked with L. Frank Baum to create the narrative strip, Queer Visitors from the Marvelous Land of Oz (4 October 1904-26 February 1905).
