Summary: This folder contains former volume 6, pages 71 to 140 of the extra illustrated version of John Galt's The Life, Studies and Works of Benjamin West. It contains letters to and from West concerning the Royal Academy of Arts of which West was the President, a letter from the managers of the Pennsylvania Hospital concerning West's commission Christ Healing the Sick in the Temple, personal correspondences, and prints of notable contemporaries and historical figures. One document dates to 1694 and one to 1831, but the bulk of the material dates between 1800 and 1815. Oversize pages are in box 3, folder 7.

John Galt wrote two volumes covering the life of Benjamin West. The first was published in 1816 and contains biographical information from West’s birth to his travels in Italy in the 1760s. The second volume contains West’s move to London and his subsequent career as historical painter to King George III, and ends with West’s death in 1820.
