description This folder contains former volume 4, pages 141 to 153 of the extra illustrated version of John Galt&#39;s&nbsp;<em>The Life, Studies and Works of Benjamin West</em>. It contains&nbsp;letters concerning the affairs of the Royal Academy of Art of which West was the President, and prints of notable contemporaries and influential historical figures. One letter from Rob Mackinlay is dated 1709 and the rest of the material dates between 1800 and 1810.<br /> <br /> John Galt wrote two volumes covering the life of Benjamin West. The first was published in 1816 and contains biographical information from West&rsquo;s birth to his travels in Italy in the 1760s. The second volume contains West&rsquo;s move to London and his subsequent career as historical painter to King George III, and ends with West&rsquo;s death in 1820.&nbsp
