Summary: This volume contains a journal kept by Conrad Weiser (1696-1760) during his trip in August and September of 1750 to the Iroquois capital of Onondaga (the spelling of this city's name varies in 18th century materials), after the death of noted Irqouois leader Canasatego. Canastego had been a militant ally of the British, but after his death several Iroquois tribes were pondering a French allience, while the Mohawks wanted to maintain their British ties. Weiser was sent to take stock of the new political landscape and convince the Iroquois to stick out their British alliences.

The journal includes a note of commission from James Hamilton, then Lieutenant Governor of Pennsylvania, intended to provide Weiser with safe passage on his journey. The volume also includes a newspaper clipping from June 1869 regarding the sale of Conrad Weiser's home in Reading, PA. The journal itself is highly detailed account of his trip, including descriptions of conversations and meetings.

This journal was disbound and its pages encapsulated before digitization.
