More than 250,000 individual names gleaned from genealogical and biographical materials, amassed since 1824 by the Historical Society of Pennsylvania (HSP), and searchable in the HSP Encounters database system.
The Society's collections center on eastern Pennsylvania, southern New Jersey, and parts of Delaware and Maryland, but also include a wealth of materials on the eastern United States, the founding of this country, and the diversity of ethnic and immigrant experiences across the United States. The Balch Institute for Ethnic Studies merged with HSP in 2002.
